I remember first seeing a Smartboard when I delivered a white paper at a conference in Florida in 2001. I thought to myself…MAN! That thing rocks! This week, my classroom arrived in the 21st Century. Overnight Monday, the “magic Smartboard Fairies” (yes-I am quoting our IT PM) arrived and as they would say in the Ancient Mariner “Thar she (or he in this case) blows!”
I have named my new gadget Mr. Smith, the Doctor’s assumed human name when it is required and the name of the computer from the Sarah Jane Adventures. Now my Mr. Smith does not get summoned from the wall with cheesy music, but it does have kick butt speakers and a multi-region DVD player. My desk however, does look a little like the Tardis…so the poster of the Doctor over it is very appropriate.
I have to tell you…they have me hook line and sinker now. Give me a gadget like this and I might never want to leave the school! I love it to bits…
Used it at Parent’s night last night…felt a bit like Tom Cruise in Minority Report (only I am taller :icon_biggrin:) – and did not jump on a sofa!
So going to work these days is not so bad…when Mr. Smith is waiting for me.
MrWee is not jealous…yet!

…and even better than that…I have a “Master Hairdresser” – a guy called Ray. And as you will agree – he is a genius! I love my new do…and man, I am at least 20 degrees cooler.
But seriously, hair here is a very serious thing! This salon was HUGE – and posh! You get drinks…as many as you like (all soft…believe me…Wee would not be blogging tonight if there was alcohol). And folk were so nice…right down to Ray’s joke after the first cut “Oh…have you changed your mind?” – Argh…
But tis gone…finally. Only took me 8 years!
School is nuts…timetable is as strange as ever although my class sizes are very small (good!) I still am not happy with some of my allotted time. But that said, I think I am ready to roll. Mind you, they are digging up the avenue that is a main feeder for Car Pool…that should be interesting! I get in early…so I get a prime “Miniwee” parking spot. End…little bigger than the others. Perfect! As long as I am in for 7pm each day I get the good spot. It’s worth it for Miniwee…
MrWee thinks that he is married to someone else….

So decided that I would go in a day early to give me time to work on walls and stuff! Turns out that I stacked the desks in my room for nothing – the promised washing of the carpet did not take place. In fact, very little took place in M6 over the vacation…LCD projector was still as I left it – whole room was dusty. I did achieve a new pull down screen…and alas…the Smartboard alludes me still. We are assured by IT that they are on back order and they will be installed soon. As the saying goes…will not hold my breath.
Will be an interesting year in EMU land. The whole back field is covered with dirt. I propose a new sport…mud wresting! While showing the new teachers around today, we contemplated such difficulties ahead like, parking space (there is none!) and where the school will evacuate to in the event of a fire drill.
But my room rocks. I put up some fab. wall displays and the place looks ace! I am a happy camper. Now if I get the classes that I want I will be a very happy camper!
Found a dead frog in the pool filter tonight (MrWee and I are volunteers at the community pool and this week is our week!) Told one of the kids that was swimming in the pool that the French like to eat these deep fried. Think I really grossed the kid out. Poor wee frog. At least his last minutes were…well…watery!
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog when I will report on the imminent explosion of our Chinese teacher when he sees his classroom. Most of the junk from the Design Tech room ended up in there…and when he sees the mess…
…the Chinese are not the kings of the firework for nothing!

I have a painter! I will have lovely new colors by next weekend (fingers crossed!) Very excited! Hoping that I have time to finish all the trim and bits…but ohhhhhhh how cool! I will not even have to paint my bedroom!
So that was really the height of excitement today. MrWee is working late in order to keep me in the manner to which I have become accustomed (*grin*) and my feeling flush parents have decided that one trip to the States was not enough this year so they are coming in October as well as MrWee’s Aunts. This could be a lot of fun…full house again…except Wee’s Dad really likes to hog the bathroom. Just as well we have 4!!!
So bit of bad TV and bed…have done nothing but paint all day…ready to just kick back. Thankfully the heat wave has passed and I have the windows open! Bliss!

Absolutely Fabulous…the show I am watching on BBC America. Brilliant! Throwback to the 90’s when humor was funny. Talking humor, check out http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/64ad536a6d – Paris Hilton is now running for President of the US. In response to John McCain’s (REP) “Party Political Broadcast” as we called them in the UK, Paris is now running, with Rhianna as a possible Vice. Good for her I say! Sure if it is coming down to who is the biggest celebrity then why not Paris? Free hotels for all!
So today, after a fine walk of the subdivision (which is the local exercise – the owner of the local gym has driven all the cul-de-sacs and determined a three mile route!) I came back to the joys of sanding down the banisters of the stair rails while listening to the strains of Neal Bortz. Bortz is the local talk radio host who claims to be a libertarian but spends a lot of time pointing out the faults of Democrats and the Barack Obama’s campaign for the White House. It is VERY entertaining – you learn things like how the plane that Barack Obama is using is now called “O-Force 1″ and that he has a liking for the Solomon Brothers Jewelers. Well, it is good background noise for painting.
On the painting front, it seems that no-one wants to come paint my Great Room and Hall. In our house these are the two story high ceiling once trendy in the 90’s type of room that will require me to either scale Everest type scaffold or do an Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider 1 type of swinging from the light fitting in the hall. Quite like the idea of being Lara Croft and stuff…but the lines would certainly not be straight and since Rimmer is not available to serve up my tea and guns I am not for this idea.
Floor wise this evening we visited the fabulous Lowe’s Home Improvement store where the riveting buy of the week was a sander! I am now the proud owner of a Black and Decker sander! I know that all you DIY junkies out there are very envious and are now drooling over the keyboard as you read… :icon_rolleyes:
Today was also a day of revelation…of the scrap booking kind. A friend in the cove (Cocktail Cove – the end of our street where the inhabitants oft frequent their front lawns with beverages of a nature on a Friday evening…although I understand that a new trampoline has the cove frequenting one of the back yards to watch the wee ones bounce around while drinking whatever concoction has been brewed…) Since my scrapbook consists of a large box of photos in the basement, I thought that it might be nice to organize this stuff…just about 8 years of life. Now Weewoman.com does the latter four years pretty well..when I update it and play with the pictures…but the rest of our lives are in that box. So have started with the organizer box…which could be an ongoing project for the next eight years. Thing is, you have to have a creative bone in your body. I think I broke that bone in the summer of ‘83 when I fell out of my Granny’s Plum tree while trying to pick the only ripe plum that it ever seemed to have…on the top branch…
Exciting day tomorrow peeps…upstairs banister!

So I did not sleep last night. I have no clue why! Was not too hot…aircon was on it’s usual temp…but as it turned out, MrWee did not sleep either. I had the impression of impending doom so resolved to call Wee’s Mom to make sure that life in Ireland was normal. It was. My cousin’s first child is making her a grandmother…at the ripe old age of 32. Might I say this kind of thing runs in this branch of the family! It is kind of a “have the kids young” type of branch…the one that really should have been pruned from the tree a long time ago!
So a very normal day…Jazzercise…DIY store…Brooke Knows Best and I love Money. I did manage to clean the car – which was FILTHY! After vacuuming and hovering and bemoaning the fact that some bugger has managed to chip the back bumper, I came in and washed out the vacuum. Half of a head of hair in there was in there. Wee’s Niece was on a recent visit…and has taken to gothic styles in hair…black and evidently falling out in clumps! No doubt I will be finding bits of my niece for the next few months! Must say, like the hair that way…not liking what it is leaving behind.
And here I am…in front of Reba while MrWee folds laundry. There is a reason why I don’t post every day.
Mind you, once I switch this off, it could get interesting. I complained to the Subdivision Yard Nazi’s today (otherwise known as the Homeowner’s Association) about a lawn near us. I have to mow our sodding lawn (or more correctly MrWee does…I edge…well sort of!) so they should too! We don’t pay some fancy lawn company like next door. We do on occasion use the slave labor of the other next door’s kid! But he is in his teenage year and is…well not regular in his lawn care duties.
Will explain at a later date about the whole culture of the Yard Nazi…needless to say it makes Desperate Housewives look tame around here.
Ah well…Top Gear is on tonight. God bless BBC America!!!

T’was a Sunday afternoon and it was one of those weekends that kind of sneaked it’s way up on MrWee and myself! We honestly did not know what to do with ourselves! First time this whole summer! It came as a bit of a shock! Last weekend we were hang gliding with friends in Chattanooga (well, watching Higgie Scream from 2000 ft to the ground to be more precise!) Week before we were with family…it has been a crazy summer! However, suddenly, it all stopped. Folk went home and then someone turned up the thermostat outside! It is CRAZY HOT! So all I want to do is sit in the Air Con. However, yesterday we had to do some yard work! Tame some trees, weed some beds, water some plants. And then a giant storm came over and knocked over a beautiful tree in next door’s yard onto our fence line so we were out again today trying to fix that mess! Neighbor is away and we have no contact details so there you go…so much for knowing your neighbors!
So today consisted of having to lop another tree and getting so sweaty that we had to shower AGAIN! During this process, MrWee put on the telly for a bit of background noise and found WALL TO WALL SEASON TWO OF DOCTOR WHO!!! Bless BBC America…so we went out for lunch (good old Ted’s…) and whoo hoo. Aircon and Doctor! Love it! But even BBC America cut bits…shame on them!
So last week of summer vacation and decided to blog it! (Yes…I know that you are about to say…yeah…will believe it when I see it…) but have to start somewhere…and this week I hope by documenting my sad little existence that I might get an idea of where I should be at and what the heck I should be doing!
So off to watch the finale of Design Star. My sad little addiction – HGTV! I love this stuff. Homeownership does strange things to people! You go through phases in your TV life…When I was a kid it was TISWAS and Saturday Superstore and Children’s ITV and BBC. You graduate slowly to the world of Soaps (mine were Neighbours, Home and Away and Coronation Street (Eastenders and Emmerdale Farm (when it was a farm!) on occasion). Then you go through the strange college years and I was of the generation of X Files. Would not miss an episode! Mind you, that and Ren and Stimpy make for very random viewing! My Sci-Fi years are continuing now with the revival of Doctor Who and the programs spawned from that like Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. But you do find that you get an interest with homeownership in programs that tell you how to fix / improve /renovate / pull bits off / clean up / revamp / remodel / rebuild / do stuff / sew stuff / stick thingys / dig muck up / nail crap to…your house! And it is worse when you own a big ass house! Conversations with friends, especially neighbors usually revolve around your house. Mind you…as seasons go…I am happy about that! As long as they steer clear of children and quality of education conversations I will participate. I am VERY wary of folk that I just about know around the sub division that start a conversation around “Soooooo you teach at a private school…” because invariably they are angling to find out what the school fees are and if it would be possible to get their little darhling in there. Mind you, the fees usually puts paid to the rest of the conversation continuing!
So hang out for my last week of full summer vacation….

…and I am now on my 10th episode of NCIS! I really need to get out more. Darn USA Network and their Marathons.
Weather is beautiful outside but due to my state of being totally exhausted, I can just about move the recliner from upright to recline! Am thinking about Greek Food…but that involves movement!
Summer is about to start so you can expect at least one more post this year *grin*

OK…so it is official…I am the worst blogger in the world but am still trying to get better. Check out Wee’s World for the official take on Utah…the Mormon State….
So yesterday was another first for Wee! Boating on the lake in America. Now the speedboat was a friend of ours that MrWee works with. 8 Seater…brilliant. So get all the gear on board, head off. Go speeding around the water and then out comes a giant rubber ring – tie it on and hurtle yourself at a silly speed around the lake behind the boat. Reluctant after see MrWee nearly meet his maker in a backward flip, Wee gets on board, screams a lot and only realised that her ass will not be a sore if she lifts it up from the bottom of the ring at the very end of the ride. Have to say – great fun altogether.
So we are mucking round with the wake board and suddenly the boat loses power. We are out of gas. There are six on board, three guys, three chicks…and of course….two out of the three guys are non swimmers! So out of the boat for the three chicks and the owner of the boat….and we start to tow and swim to the nearest dock. Wee towing a big boat. Unfortunately there is no photographic evidence of this event so you will just have to believe me when I tell you that it was jolly funny! Finally, a boat took pity on us and we towed us back where we just laughed and got on with enjoying the day!
Of course, in years to come when I tell this story again, I will be the only one towing the boat and I took it the whole way…

Yesterday was our first residents meeting for our new house! So being the good community citizens that we are we thought we should go – and indeed see where the $480 bucks that we pay annually (or will pay annually – thank you previous owners!) will go!
Lots of folks gathered at the gazebo at the pool house. Brand new pool house looks great but it took a lot of work. We found out a bit more about the neighbour hood and raised our eyebrows when we were told about things like stuff you can and can’t have in your yard – watering only on certain days and figuring out the grass! Ireland has A LOT to learn about this stuff!
Gets to the end of the meeting and they are asking for voting for a new member of the board. Colin and I had asked a couple of questions during the meeting. Being Irish in an American gathering sticks out like a sore thumb so the lovely guy beside us asks Colin what my name is. Colin said “Bob” but finally we caved and by a rather unanimous vote, I am now Secretary TREASURER (those that know me know what that means…and I am useless at it!) of the Madison Woods Residents Association. They may live to regret letting someone from Norn Iron on there… :icon_lol:
